The Booth Association

Members

We are rooted locally.

Eight independent local newsrooms from different cities and regions. Each has its own voice and community, while sharing professional interests.

We work independently, growing stronger together

The members of The Booth are independent newsrooms. Each newsroom decides on its own topics, editorial principles and operations.

Membership does not take away from this independence; it adds shared knowledge, connections, greater visibility, joint projects and stronger representation.

The Booth works best when every member keeps its own character while making use of the strength the community provides.

Our members

What does membership provide?

The Booth is more than a shared name and presence. Membership provides access to things that a small local newsroom would find harder or more expensive to achieve on its own.

01

Knowledge and experience

We share editorial, business, technology and audience-building experience. When something already works in one city, others do not have to start from scratch.

02

Joint projects

We can work together on topics that affect more than one town or region. Local knowledge comes together and can reveal bigger stories.

03

Greater visibility

An important local story can reach readers in other cities through The Booth network. Members strengthen one another’s work.

04

Representation

The challenges faced by local newsrooms are often similar. Together, we can represent them more effectively in professional, regulatory and decision-making forums.

05

Shared development

We can create or acquire tools, methods and developments together when they make sense for several members.

06

A professional community

There is someone to ask. Someone to share a problem, idea or working solution with. That matters a great deal in the day-to-day work of a small newsroom.

What does it mean to be a Booth member?

Membership also means working together. Members actively take part in joint work, share their experience and contribute to projects that benefit the entire community.

The goal is not to create a centrally controlled media system. The Booth’s strength comes precisely from different local newsrooms working together while preserving their independence.

Who can become a member?

We welcome local or regional newsrooms and media initiatives that regularly produce their own journalism, value editorial independence and want to take an active part in the community’s work.

Membership is not automatic. We consider every application together because The Booth is a professional community built on trust between its members.
